Now that’s a guy with a sense of humor. ;-)

Want a better Windows experience? Buy a Mac.

Anyone who knows me knows that despite my regular rants, I don’t really hate Windows — I use a well-maintained copy at work and find it stable, usable for my tasks, and generally a reasonable experience. I do, however, hate administrating Windows. The install process is unreasonably difficult, the vendor driver support is laughable, and one needs a tremendous amount of 3rd-party software just to make the thing safe and usable.

As a result, I’ve been a Linux user for upwards of 8 years now, and about 3 years ago I added Mac OS X in the form of a PowerBook G4; the administration headaches are a distant memory. Of course, I still need to keep a Windows box around for testing purposes, and until recently, having a VM image of Windows running under VMware on Linux has been adequate. Now, though, I find myself needing a portable Windows solution.

It seems like my answer might be to buy a new Mac:

Task-Centered User Interface Design

14 September, 2007 (17:06) | Mindless Links | By: radiantmatrix

Task-Centered User Interface Design is a free e-book on a well-researched UI design methodology. I’ve been reading through it a bit, and I highly recommend anyone interested in UI design take a look.

If you’re not interested in UI design, but you write software for a living, then either change jobs or get interested in UI design.

Hellmansoft: Planbook Software For Teachers

Hellmansoft: Planbook Software For Teachers:

Gone are the days of a traditional paper lesson plan book. This software enables teachers to maintain their paper plan book in a digital form. Planbook allows you to enter information about your lesson plans, attach files used in class directly to your lessons, print nicely formatted user-defined reports, publish lessons directly to the web and search for topics taught in class. Planbook will let you reclaim all those hours spent pushing bits of paper from file folder to file folder, preparing assignments for absentee students and searching for long lost handouts and will help you do what you love: Teach! (and maybe, just maybe, get home by 6pm on a weeknight!)

My wife is a teacher. If she decides to use this, maybe she’ll be willing to review it for me. :)
